Exhibit opening at the Pineapple Lab featuring “The Undercurrent: 30 Artists under 30”
“Any art you make is an extension of yourself, your present, your past experiences and your hopes for the future.” – Fiona Lazaro, the 23-year-old Gallery and Events Manager for Pineapple Lab explains the inspiration behind this month’s exhibit Undercurrent: 30 Artists Under 30.
“It was a celebration of what Forbes Asia started. The Undercurrent is really about defining this generation’s contributions to the art industry. I know not everyone’s going to like this but the show was put together by people from various disciplines. You can’t have a lot of photography or sculptures so I’m glad we were able to gather a pool of amazing art that is diverse enough to draw interest.”
With just a month to complete all 30 work submissions, Fiona tells us more about how the works met her expectations. “I’m really mind blown. Because when I sent out the invite last May 31, I wasn’t expecting anyone to answer and make something from scratch that fast. To put something out there for the world to judge..that’s scary. So I didn’t expect that much yet I was overwhelmed, but in a good way. I’m glad that this is also served as a chance for Pineapple Lab to really take the role of a creative hub here in Poblacion.”
PINEAPPLE LAB’S THE UNDERCURRENT features new works in diverse mediums by thirty artists under the age of 30 based in and around Metro Manila.
OPENING RECEPTION July 13th at 6PM. The exhibit runs through July 30 2017.
This month’s showcase is a convergence of young contemporary artists who are currently on the visual arts radar – all contributing to a new wave of creatives changing the game on their own terms. This generation of traditional and digital creators is redefining the face of Filipino art beneath the surface – a counter flow of talent at the helm of navigating through Manila’s creative industries.
