Get inspired: Indie Un-film Festival
“Films are a great avenue for the youth to express themselves and what they stand for.” – Cherry Yao and Jenni Wee, state the importance of film for millennials as the project heads from the DLSU Green Media Group of the Indie Un-film Festival 2017. “All the entries we received motivated us to focus on our advocacy which is to help inspire student filmmakers into doing what they love and giving them a platform to express themselves and show their work. This year’s entries are definitely diverse and worth watching. You get to see the perspective of the youth today, the potential of Filipino student filmmakers, and their power to shape the film industry.”
Green Media Group’s Indie Un-film Festival 2017 is the annual intercollegiate digital film competition that features films by students from various schools and universities in Metro Manila. On its 14th Year, IUF 2017 will also be holding a one-day conference where young films makers can learn from veteran directors in the Philippine Film Industry.
Yao and Wee highlight that “watching films and making films is a different experience. As a millennial, we always watch TV series, concerts, plays, and films. We need to watch something that can distract us or help us relax from a day’s work. Watching films help you understand issues and expose yourself to different stories and experiences from the storyteller’s perspective. You may also get inspiration from the films to change a certain outlook on your life. Meanwhile, making a film makes you express your ideas and words into a world people can experience. You, as a millennial filmmaker, help those you fight for and also change the norm of filmmaking here in the Philippines.”
