Backstabber Productions: A 6-step guide to capturing that perfect moment

When the Be app unlocked its first neighbourhood last June, we also released our very first Manila video teaser. We admit, a little over a minute is too short to fully highlight what the app and Metro Manila has to offer- so much good food to taste, awesome people to meet, and hidden hangouts to discover, we can’t simply just pick a handful!
As it takes skill to cut, edit, and curate hours of video to come up with a sixty seconds teaser, we asked for the help of Backstabber Productions – a small multi-media and production company based in Manila, to help us curate our story in a fun and informative way, without having to spill all beans in one go. With their tagline “We are the creative people behind the camera”, this group of young creatives definitely did not disappoint. If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the Be App Manila teaser:
We asked Paolo and Yves, founders of Backstabbers Productions, on how their team skyrocketed from beginners to award-winning professionals in just a couple of years and what the winning formula is:
1) Have FUN
“It all started in 2010 during our college days. It’s funny because the name ‘Backstabbers Productions’ popped-out just from nothing. We had a video editing subject and we were tasked to come up with a production name for our student film. We were kinda silly and and on a whim we decided on ‘Backstabbers Production’ as our name. We loved it straightaway because it was catchy and everyone wants to know the story behind the name. As a matter of fact, we got our very first client because they just got interested in our production name and the rest was history.”
2) Luck favours the brave
“We joined a school film festival in 2012 called “CineMapúa” and we won the Best Film award for that festival. Then in 2013, we had a chance to join a film festival internationally. It was “The Amazing Thailand Film Festival” in Bangkok. We participated in years 2013 and 2014. However, it was in 2016, we eventually won an award for our entry. We received a plaque, trophy and cash prize for the Best Film representation of Thailand in Chao Phraya River Cluster.”
3) Attitude is everything
“I think regardless of the brand name, the logo and whatever collaterals that a company has, there is still one thing that would make your client stay and trust you… that is your attitude and quality of service. We are always trying to give our best to our clients.”
4) Take notes
“We wanted to be a video production company where we exercise our skills and creativity through visual storytelling. We instil ourselves our values we call Q.C.E.P.T.: Quality, Output, Creativity and Excellence in everything that we do. We aim to be profitable despite of many competitors around and never forget the integral aspect of Teamwork.”
5) Aspire to be the best version of yourself
“Aside from doing Corporate AVP’s, Marketing Videos, Activation Collaterals, Animation and Photography, we also offer mobile applications for events. As Multimedia Artists, we hone our skills through experience and challenges we encounter in every project. We are unique in a way that we try to execute new ideas and break the norm.”
6) Travel while you can
“We don’t have any special events coming from our end but we would like to promote our personal project: “Four Seasons in Four Different Places”. This is a personal project we started 2 years ago. We captured Autumn in Nagoya, Japan, Winter in Hong Kong & Macau, Spring in Seoul, South Korea and Summer in Boracay, Philippines.”
