10 shows to see this weekend at Fringe 2020 Manila
Origins is a dance theatre, visual media, and immersive exploration into the past that leaves echoes in the present. How do we sift away the debris left from generations ago? How do we stand in the truths of how it affects us in the present? How do we hold space for one another as we peel back the layers of traumas passed down? How do we co-exist?
A collaborative between Immigrant Lessons and Moments of Movement presents 8 artists diving into their unique stories, and journeys through intersections of identity, to uncover the similarities.
When and where? 21-Feb 8pm at the Fringe Rooftop, Drapers Startup House
The world is as diverse as it gets, with people having innate preferences, interests, and beliefs. In result, these differences create numerous cultures and communities. Yet rooted in deep tradition, some are easily accepted by the majority while some are otherwise. These dissimilar treatments inevitably form the concepts of inclusion/exclusion. Individuals are coerced to abide by what is deemed ‘acceptable’, or live in fear of the latter.
The project, “Polysemy,” aims to disestablish this phenomenon. Individuals are entitled to the freedom of expression without harm. The spearheads, Ian Inoy and Danielle Lopez (Nudista), believe that as artists and human beings, we should allow ourselves to do numerous and limitless things.
Polysemy tackles the multiplicity of an artwork, wherein every meaning is accepted as it is. The exhibition consists of multiple artworks ranging from paintings, sculptures, and performances.

4. Chino Carlo at Arttempus X
Chino Carlo is a Filipino visual artist that considers himself as a child of the internet, thus he dreams to live a life that is as colorful as his filtered Instagram posts. He just finished taking a management diploma course in Innovation and Creative Enterprise under Thames International under a full scholarship provided by The British Council and Apl De Ap Foundation. He was the delegate Manila in the Young Cultural Innovators Summit in Salzburg, Austria.
He is a traditional artist that does pencil and ink sketches, watercolor and acrylic paintings. Since 2017 he has been working on pieces that fall under the fluid art category. He uses an improvised mix of acrylic and glue that he then blowtorches to make abstract pieces that are psychedelic and mind-boggling to look at. The process itself is already worth the watch. He has a total of 23 exhibits under his belt, his most special one being the solo exhibition he did in Sentro Rizal, London last June 2019.
